Are You A Hidden Rebel?

A rebel is someone who does not like to conform and is openly anti-authority or being told what to do. A hidden rebel is also very independent-minded but usually dislikes conflict, likes to be liked and so appears to conform on the outside. It's easier.

Do you recognise this in yourself?

I'd like to say it's more common among women I meet, but recently I've been meeting men who feel this description fits them very well too.

We've historically been encouraged to follow convention, to fit in to our family, society, culture, to do things the way it is or has always been done. Women are particularly vulnerable to not wanting to be ostracised from the fold, to wanting to please our loved ones and those around us, so it's no wonder we suppress our desire to kick against the norm, to find our own path, to beat our own drum.

And if you're a person who works for someone else, your concern about keeping your job and getting along with your colleagues, may make you more likely to hide your desire to do things differently, to push against what's the norm.

Even the marketing and advertisements we see regularly suggests that we need to follow a specific way, usually someone else's way, to achieve success in our businesses and our relationships - even with our health!

Your inner rebel is saying one thing and the rest of the world is saying something else. No wonder self-doubt is such a common thing.

The trouble is...

If you suppress your rebel consistently over long periods you may find yourself self-sabotaging you own efforts instead, and the more you suppress your rebel, the more you lose control of it and find yourself rebelling against yourself or rebelling in circumstances that are really not that important.

The thing is there is so much power in your hidden rebel and I'd like you to consider how you can work with that side of yourself versus against it.
