Are You Enough, Really?

You may fake it well on the surface, but I know you worry about whether you know enough, whether you are good enough, whether you are special enough, whether what you have to offer is valuable enough?

I know you worry about how much better 'everyone else' does things.

I know you worry that what you have to offer isn't unique enough.

When you feel you aren't enough, that you're lacking in some way, it makes you either a stressed-out workaholic or too fearful to take any real action, always hanging back, seeing what needs to be done but not doing it.

I'm fed up with the stock answer of 'you are enough', because in truth you know you aren't always! (That is such a patronising answer for someone as smart and savvy as you are.) You are intelligent. You can see what's missing. It's why you sometimes find yourself or what you can offer wanting...

The problem with us intelligent, ambitious, want-to-do-a-good-job types is that we always have our eye on the next thing. We look around at others and see what we could know, what we could be doing and the gap between where we are and where we want to be, leaving us feeling we just aren't enough. We feel like we're constantly behind somehow, always trying to catch up...

The trick is to

a) Work with your nature to always look forward and strive to be more - that's good and it comes naturally to you so don't try to suppress this part of you or you'll drain yourself of your passion and energy for what you do.

b) Take time out (put it in your diary weekly/ monthly/ annually) to see where you've come from, what you've learned and what you do actually know. Take time to celebrate what you've achieved, grieve for the disasters and failures, then analyse and learn from them so you integrate their value too.

c) Understand you have a place in this world, one that means for some you are a teacher and for others you are their student.

1. Teach what you know to those who want to benefit from your experience and learnings to date - this is where you are enough! But mind the gap - trying to teach something you don't have enough experience in will damage your self worth and your reputation, so stick with what you know. It may seem mundane because you already know it but just because you know it doesn't mean others do. Remember that success comes with not-so-exciting repetition - it's how our clients learn to know, like and trust us.

2. Have a vision for what you want to achieve, see the gap between where you are and where you want to be, then take the action to bridge the gap. For some people they'll be able to bridge the gap in one or two leaps, for others, like me and possibly you, we feel better taking smaller steps. How we bridge the gap and how fast we do it doesn't matter, what matters is that we do take action in our own style to cross that bridge, to become more than we were, personally and professionally.

I would love to help you get REAL, be genuinely confident about what you have to offer; get the clarity on where you need to go next and what you need to do to bridge that gap. Book in a call with me - whether you choose to work with me more deeply or not I promise you'll leave the call inspired and energised!
