Why Should You Be Authentic?
Authenticity is a very high value for me, and I believe it is essential that each and everyone of us are completely authentic.
Let me explain why...
Firstly, think about the challenges, conflicts, distrust and miscommunication you encounter in your life; think about the upsets you've experienced... wasn't the underlying cause either you or someone else who
didn't keep a promise, implied or explicit?
pretended to be someone or something they weren't?
was in people-pleaser mode letting the other person think they believed something they didn't?
tried to act the way they thought they should?
Just so you know... I think of authenticity as being genuine, being real, and it goes hand-in-hand (in my mind) with integrity. Integrity being an honest communication of what matters to you and then acting in alignment with what you say - that includes honouring your commitments and keeping your promises.
Secondly, think about all the things that feel like struggle for you. Be honest with yourself...
Are you acting with the intention of pleasing others and then getting fed up because they don't appreciate it?
Do you feel you need to be someone or something other than who you are because who you are just isn't enough?
Our unhappiness comes from not being true to ourselves, from attempting to do what we have been told (or think) we should do, from our people-pleasing behaviours.
True fulfilment and satisfaction only come when we get to be who we really are without filters, when we get to fully express who we are, whether that be through love, excitement, knowledge, gifts or in some other way.
Thirdly, success comes when we are our true selves in all our glory. It is what gives us our 'edge' in business and life, it is the spice only we can add, and being our true honest selves is the only thing that ultimately allows us to feel fulfilled... it's our purpose.
A person who is genuinely themselves is a rare person indeed, and the desire in each one of us to be our true selves, makes an authentic person magnetic, and often gives that person the confidence to exude charisma too.
These are the things that make you stand out to the right people for you.
You do not need to copy anyone else. You don't need to pretend to be anything other than who you are. You and your experiences are not only valuable to you, but also to the right people for you.
You are exactly who you need to be to do the work you have been put on this earth to do.
Go on. Be you. Be the real, honest you in all your tarnish-free glory. That's what we want.
