How To Get Unstuck: Lesson #6

Here's a quick reminder of the lessons I learned so far about getting unstuck.

Learning 1: Stop fighting it and accept whatever situation is keeping me stuck.

Learning 2: I already know what the next step is.

Learning 3: Get out of the rut before I fall in a trench!

Learning 4: I am responsible for me.

Learning 5: The Universe has my back, so trust my instincts, trust my inner knowing!

You can read deeper explanations about these in my series of articles entitled How to Get Unstuck, but for now let me share with you a massive 'A-ha!' that I hope will give you a more practical understanding and use of the concept many seem to share without really understanding what they're saying, i.e.'make choices from where you want to be rather than where you are'.

I like being busy, having something to do; so while I was dealing with my health issues (refer to the previous articles on How To Get Unstuck for more info) and not in a position to work for someone else I started looking around for something to do that could fit in with my health challenges.

My confidence was low so when a friend suggested starting a inventory company I jumped at it. She was a go-getter, loved going out and getting the deals, and she figured I'd do the work behind the scenes. It seemed a perfect match. It wasn't. I was happy to let her drive the business initially but as I became well my confidence returned along with my own go-getter inclinations. Sadly, things got way out of shape ending a friendship I valued very much.

Often when I'm stuck I tend to act from a place of low confidence and worth, and so my decisions are based on fear or a diminished view of myself that will always end up in me getting stuck again. So learning no. 6 is 'before making a choice, step into my vision of who I want to be, the self-confident, self-loving me, and then decide from a place of openness and self-belief'. By openness I mean that feeling you have when you are happy and confident and you believe in yourself and the possibilities in front of you.

Next Steps: Stand up for a minute and remember a time when you felt confident and sure of yourself, probably in a situation that is so normal to you that you don't realise you're confident and sure of yourself (like arguing with a sibling!) or perhaps it was a talk you did as far back as school that went really well. Pick anything as long as the feeling of confidence and sureness was there. Stand up as if you're in that moment. Feel how you felt then. Stay in the feeling of confidence you had then. Now remember that moment next time you want to make a choice and ask yourself 'What would that girl/ woman choose?' (Clearly if you're a man you'd phrase that differently!)

In How to Get Unstuck: Lesson #7 I discover the hidden traps that are keeping me stuck and only Melanie's devastating gift freed me so I could learn my next lesson.
