How to Get Unstuck: Lesson#4&5
Here's a quick reminder of the lessons I learned so far about getting unstuck.
Learning 1: Stop fighting it and accept whatever situation is keeping me stuck.
Learning 2: I already know what the next step is.
Learning 3: Get out of the rut before you fall in a trench!
You can read more about these in my articles How to Get Unstuck: Lesson #1&2 and How to Get Unstuck: #Lesson 3, but for now let me share with you two new learnings that have been really key in preventing me getting stuck since I understood them.
Following on from the experience I had in #Lesson 3... In my journey to figure out what was causing me to have physical fits, I was very much led by the doctors. They knew best after all. Yeah, right! First they were convinced it was psychosomatic brought on by stress, which made me significantly more stressed as I was convinced I'd 'lost it' given I couldn't link my fits to any 'stress' or thoughts that might be kicking them off.
A psychiatrist friend, Lindy, brought me out of my despair when she recommended I saw a neurologist. Turns out my brain waves weren't doing the right things. Then I was diagnosed with epilepsy and sent on my way with a bottle of pills... I'm not big on any form of drugs and this just felt all wrong, so I finally said "No. I know this isn't right." and went to see another neurologist who without me knowing turned out to be researching exactly what I had, a migraine aura that manifested in the body rather than with the more commonly known excruciating headaches etc.
So learning no. 4 was 'I am responsible for me'. What I mean by that is that when I give the power to someone else, in this case the doctors, and simply believe what they tell me then it keeps me stuck in someone else's view of how things are. It stops me moving forward. It keeps me trapped. When I accept my own responsibility for myself, aka take back my power, I get unstuck and move forward.
Next Steps: How are you giving away your power? Where are you not taking responsibility for the experiences you have? How are you being a victim or allowing someone near you to be a victim? Where are you taking too much responsibility for others, trying to fix or control things for them?
There's another part to my story that is also significant and had another learning in it. There were several 'coincidences' that were too perfect for them to be just that.
1. Accidentally meeting up with Lindy, my psychiatrist friend, who put me on the path to my right diagnosis.
2. My husband overheard two neurologists concerned about the inaccurate diagnoses of women consistently made by the neurologist who diagnosed me with epilepsy (before I went to see him), and
3. The only neurologist we vaguely knew personally, turned out to be the one who was studying the unusual form of migraine I had. I was a text book case for him.
So it's not exactly a learning around getting unstuck although it is related, so I'm going to call it learning no. 5. It was yet another example in my life of where the Universe or Fate or God or Spirit, was looking out for me, was giving me clues and supporting me along the way. Knowing that makes it so much easier for me to 'trust my instincts, trust my inner knowing', even if it seems counter-intuitive to what is accepted in normal life.
Next Steps: Where's your intuition trying to lead you? What is your inner voice trying to tell you that you're resisting or coming up with loads of reasons why it's a 'bad' idea?
I continue my story and the lessons I've learned along the way in How to Get Unstuck: Lesson #6, where I share how I learned about how I was making choices in the wrong way. Are you?
